The small-scale fisheries sector plays a crucial role in the Moroccan economy. Its sustainability is compromised by income distribution inequalities. This study aims to analyze the mechanisms which underlie the creation and distribution of value added considering the organization of the value chain and the type of governance that regulates the relationship between the actors. Investigations have focused on ten value chain agents. They were chosen on the basis of product, market, geographic location and degree of enclosure. The findings have identified three types of value chains: domestic, global and mixed. The most frequent governance structure is related to “directed model”. The fisherman is the main generator of value added with the intermediaries dominating the value chain and capturing the bulk of revenues.
