This article aims to analyze the lack of competitiveness of the Alger- ian poultry industry by using the Porter’s model and RBV approach. Our em- pirical research was based on two surveys conducted in 2007 and 2010. The main results showed that in Algeria intensive poultry farming is almost entire- ly dependent on the world agro-food system, poultry farms are technically weak, producers’ associations are poorly developed and the innovation capac- ity of all stakeholders is very limited from a technical point of view and in terms of organization. Moreover some factors were identified which could make the Algerian poultry sector more competitive in the present globalized and regionalized context.
